The landscape around Ferrara is particularly suitable for water sports owing to the sea, the wetlands and the rivers.
The beautiful Lake of Lido delle Nazioni is an artificial basin created by the hydraulic works in the Volano area. During the summer the lake becomes a real paradise for those, who love canoeing, kayak, water skiing, sailing and windsurfing. The local Naval League will provide any assistance you might need and organises sailing courses.
Wind surfing is quite common. Many bathing establishments on the coast rent all the necessary equipment and offer the help of professional trainers. Swimming courses can also be taken both in the sea and in many swimming pools.
The numerous rivers flowing in the Po are perfect for those who love canoeing. You can row among herons and water lilies, in a variety of colours and landscapes of great charm.

This region, traditionally devoted to sailing, has many harbours and docks along both the rivers and the coast. The harbour in Porto Garibaldi is connected to the new docks of Marina degli Estensi, covering 33.000 m2 with a depth of 4 metres and 300 docks; the dockyard is modern and fully equipped.
A few kilometres from the Abbey of Pomposa, where the Po di Volano flows into the sea, a small harbour can host 90 boats of a maximum length of 15 metres. From Comacchio to Ostellato and Finale di Rero, there are many docking opportunities up to the dockyard of San Paolo in Ferrara, with all the services of a modern river port. Sailing along the Po towards Ferrara you'll discover a thousand opportunities to enjoy nature and culture.
The Po flowing from Ferrara towards Gorino and down to the sea, ploughed by millions of boats over the centuries, opens the way between the coats and the flatland. It offers many docking opportunities, as "Porta del Delta", a modern centre near Serravalle, at the first bifurcation of the Po Delta.
